Mirchichi Bhaji/Mirchi Dal/Dal Gandori is one of the favourite recipe in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra India. It is made in Ganapati festival, during any program, family get-together etc. in Vidarbha side. you can eat with flat bread (Roti/Chapati) and by side salad. This dish tastes hot and spicy. Ingredients :- 

  • 2 Cup Toor Dal (Red Gram)
  • 1 Cup Chopped Green Chili
  • 1 Cup Chopped Onion
  • 1 Cup Chopped Brinjal
  • 1/2 Cup Grated Coconut(You can use thin slices of coconut but here I used grated coconut)
  • 1/2 Cup Crushed Groundnuts
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Sorrel Leaves(Ambat Chuka)
  • Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 2 Teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • Oil
  • Salt

Recipe :-

  1. Take 2 cup toor dal(Red Gram) in a bowl and wash it for 2 - 3 times it well.
  2. Then put washed toor dal in a pressure cooker.
  3. Add 1 cup chopped green chili, 1 cup chopped onion, 1 cup chopped brinjal, 1/2 cup chopped sorrel leaves, 4 - 6 cup water then cover the lid and cook it well.
  4. When dal is cooked then make fine paste of this dal with hand mixi.
  5. Heat some oil in a deep pan.
  6. Add 1 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, 2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste and saute it till it becomes golden colour of garlic.
  7. Add 1/2 cup grated coconut, 1/2 cup crushed groundnuts and saute it till it becomes golden brown.
  8. Add some chopped coriander leaves, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon garam masala, 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder and saute it.
  9. Then add fine dal paste and mix it well.
  10. Add water as required and stir it.
  11. Add salt as per your taste, and add some chopped coriander leaves and mix it well then boil it for 5 minutes.
After some time mirchichi bhaji or mirchi dal or dal gandori will be ready. Serve it hot with flat bread (Roti/chapati) or rice. 

Extra Tips :-

  • Add lemon juice to this dish and eat with flat bread (roti/chapati) for extra taste
  • If you want to take authentic countryside feeling while eating this dish, take a lemon, cut it in half. Take one of the half lemon, squash it this dish. Mix it well and eat this dish by using lemon slice as small spoon. The sour taste of lemon with spicy taste of this dish gives you an authentic countryside taste. 
  • You can have Masala Mattha as sides while eating this dish ( buttermilk with garnishing of mint leaves, green chili, cumin seeds powder with a pinch of  black salt and regular salt, add sugar if you like)
  • Also don't forget to add raw salad like radish, carrot, beetroot, tomato, onion, cucumber as sides.
