Rice Appe

Appe is also known as Paniyaram. It is called appam in Malayalam, appa in Sinhala, aappam in Tamil, chitau pitha in Oriya. It is a common food in Sri Lanka and the Indian states of kerala and Tamil Nadu where it is eaten most frequently for breakfast or dinner.

Ingredients :-

  • 2 Cup Rice 
  • 1/2 Cup Urad Dal
  • 1/2 Cup Moong Dal
  • 1/2 Cup Chana Dal
  • 1 Cup Chopped Onion
  • 1 Cup Chopped Tomato 
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • 2 Chopped Green Chili
  • Oil

Recipe :-

  1. Take 2 cup rice in a large bowl. Wash it to 3 - 4 times. Add 5 cup water in rice and soak them for overnight.
  2. Take 1/2 cup urad dal in a bowl. Wash it to 3 - 4 times. Add 2 cup water in urad dal and soak them for overnight.
  3. Take 1/2 cup moong dal in a bowl. Wash it to 3 - 4 times. Add 2 cup water in moong dal and soak them for overnight.
  4. Take 1/2 cup chana dal in a bowl. Wash it to 3 - 4 times. Add 2 cup water in chana dal and soak them for overnight
  5. After that drain of the water from rice and all dal.
  6. Blend to smooth paste of rice and all dal with water as required one by one. Transfer the smooth paste in a large bowl.
  7. Mix it well making sure everything is combined well.
  8. Then cover and rest in a warm place till the batter ferments and doubles.
  9. Once batter becomes ready then add 1 cup chopped onion, 1 cup chopped tomato, 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves and salt as per your taste. Mix it well.
  10. Heat the Appe maker on medium flame. Spread some oil on the slightly heated Appe Maker with the help of brush.
  11. Pour the spoonful of batter into each mould.
  12. Cover and cook on medium flame and cook till the lower surface becomes golden brown then flip over the Appe and cook from other side as well.
  13. Repeat with the remaining batter to make more Appes.

After that Appe will be ready for eat.
Serve the Appe with groundnuts chutney or coconut chutney or tomato sauce.

Tips :-

  • You can put Green Peas, Capsicum and Spinach in batter.
  • You can garnish with Carrots, some Green Peas and Coriander leaves.
