Masala Khakhra

Masala Khakhra is a thin cracker commonly eaten in the Gujarat and Rajasthan. However it also liked by other regions in India. It is crunchy and healthy dish. Khakhra is made in several varieties, such as methi(Fenugreek Leaves), palak(Spinach), tomato etc. You can eat Masala khakhra with spicy pickle and sweet chutney or milk/coffee/tea. 

Ingredients :-

  • 1 Cup Gram Flour(Besan)
  • 2 Cup Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cumin Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • Oil
  • Salt

Recipe :-

  1. Take 2 cup wheat flour in a large bowl
  2. Add 2 tablespoon oil(or ghee), salt as per required and mix it well. Add some water as required. Stir gently with fingers in a circular motion until it becomes dough. 
  3. Knead the flour until it becomes soft and does not stick to your fingers. You can put little oil on your hand while kneading. 
  4. Then cover the dough and let the dough rest for atleast 15 minutes.
  5. Take 1 cup gram flour(Besan) in a medium bowl.
  6. Add 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder, 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon garam masala, 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder, salt as per your taste and mix it well.
  7. Add some water as required. Stir gently with fingers in a circular motion until it become dough.
  8. Knead the gram flour(Besan) until it becomes soft.
  9. You can take little oil on your hand while kneading the dough to help with kneading.
  10. Then cover the dough and let the dough rest for atleast 15 minutes.
  11. After that firstly make the small size ball of wheat flour dough.
  12. Also make the small size ball of gram flour dough.
  13. Place the gram flour doughs small sized ball in center of wheat flour dough.
  14. Stuff the gram flour dough inside wheat flour dough.
  15. After stuffing dust the ball with wheat flour and flatten with chapati roller. Making sure the khakhra is thin.
  16. Then put the rolled khakhra on hot tawa.
  17. Roast on medium flame and in between press khakhra with the help of wood smasher and roast it well.
  18. Repeat this for other dough balls as well. 
After that masala khakhra will be ready.
